“Nightfall”

An auroral pattern zig zags above Talus Lake, Tombstone Territorial Park, Yukon Territory, Canada

This was taken as the water began to freeze along the lakes edge approaching the end of a long and spectacular night shooting. Many images that I took failed to have a complementary aurora pattern but here when the lake calmed briefly it happened and fortuitously lined up with some shoreline ice while a different auroral arc framed Tombstone Mountain behind. My favourite image of the year and it was awarded runner up in a Canadian Geographic photography competition.
